What is Beta Reading?

The goal of beta readings is to read and critique unpublished and completed manuscripts. Beta readers usually help with the story’s flow, continuity errors, spelling, and grammar. We are your go to’s for testing if your manuscript is succinct and great for a young adult audience.

I’m a secondary pre-service teacher and freelance writer who has profound knowledge and experience in editing and of course, in writing. I’ve been a reader since the very first time I was introduced to a book. This has resulted in me reading 100’s, if not thousands of books in my lifetime. Having this much experience as both a freelance editor and writer, and additionally as a avid reader, has allowed me to acquire an expertise on what makes a young adult book relatable, ground breaking, and just an all round breathtaking book. As a teen I can help you shape your novel in a way that young adults can relate to.

the beta reading package

This includes a one page in depth analysis and critique of your book. It also includes a chapter by chapter account of my personal thoughts. In this package I will only read your manuscript once. The analysis and critique focuses on every aspect of your book from plot to characters to imagery and consistency with world building.

Prices vary and you will have to contact me for a quote. I’m currently charging $100 for manuscripts between 50,000 to 90,000. However as mentioned before, you can contact me (click the contact us tab and fill the subject line with “Beta Package services”) and we can discuss prices on services with more or less words.

sensitivity reading

What is Sensitivity Reading?

‘A sensitivity reader reads through a manuscript for issues of representation and for instances of bias on the page. The goal of a sensitivity reader isn’t to edit a manuscript clarity and logic, although that may be an additional service offered. A sensitivity reader reviews a manuscript for internalized bias and negatively charged language. A sensitivity reader is there to help make sure you do not make a mistake, but they are also NOT a guarantee against making a mistake.’

As mentioned before, I have experience in freelance editing and writing and am also a pre-service teacher. I am able to provide thoughtful and very useful critique’s when you hire me to sensitive read for specific representations and categories.

the sensitivity reader package

There is no limit to how many pages of notes and comments I provide. I point out what should be changed and what can be worked on. This includes microaggressions, stereotypes, slurs, problematic dialogue and so much more. I will also be reading your book carefully so turnaround time is usually within two weeks (for books with 50,000 words or less) or a month (for books with more than 50,000 words). For books that are greater than 50,000 words, 10% of the original price will be added onto the total amount. Manuscripts greater than 50,000 words with a tighter schedule, will also have another 10% added to the final price. These prices vary due to the content I will be editing. Prices for quicker turnaround will also vary, so please contact me for a quote.

For sensitivity reads with words 50,000 to 100,000, contact me for my charging rates. For manuscripts more than 100,000 words or less than 50,000, you’ll have to contact me for a quote. Additionally, I will charge a percentage of the original price if the book has multiple representations that I have to sensitive read for. For example if you need my services for 3 different themes/representations, I will charge accordingly to how much each one will take more effort to read. If there’s a singular theme that is very draining (i.e. colonisation) I will add a percentage of the original price to the total price. The percentage of how much I charge for heavier themes and under-represented representations are below.

guidelines to our services

As a full-time student working in communications, I am only able to sensitive and beta read at specific times of the year which vary every year. I won’t be able to accept every request because of this. I also only read genres that I’m interested in which are:

– Urban Fantasy
– High Fantasy
– Romance
– Contemporary
– Science Fiction
– Graphic Novels
– Poetry

However if you think I would be interested in your book that doesn’t fit these genres, please feel free to contact me. But know that I am free to decline.

The manuscripts I’m able to read should have a young adult and/or new adult target audience. I am also open to middle grade manuscripts.

For me to be able to work with you, your manuscripts have to be finished. They should also have gone through edits. Turnaround times for the packages are usually within the week or two but may vary due to me being a full-time student. However, if you’re in need of a quick sensitive read, I am happy to dedicate all my time to it to have a quicker turnaround time, but it will cost extra.

Payment will be through PayPal only. You will have to pay half upfront and the half after the completion of my work analysing and critiquing your work. Know that none of these packages are refundable as I dedicate my own time to read and critique your work. In addition, when emailing me, please add your name, your book and what package you want in the subject line. Then provide me details on what you want, including the turnaround time you want, the word count, the genre and a synopsis. collaboration services

We’re currently available to collaborate with publishers and businesses to design postcards, shirts, bookmarks, labels etc. Basically anything involving our talents in graphic designs and bookmarks. We’re also open to sponsored reviews and promotions and are happy to discuss details on what you’d like us to review or promote. Here at Endless Yarning we value honesty and those who sponsor a review should be informed that we will be honestly reviewing the product. Promotion of books or any products of any kind will have 23 days of advertisement on all social media platforms if hired. One of our policies is that you pay half upfront and the rest later when our collaboration, promotion or sponsorship has ended. Please use the contact form in ‘Contact Us’ with the subject line ‘Collaboration Services’ and we’ll get back to you in 48 hours with a quote of the prices we charge.
